Coal Mining Women

When one thinks of mining, it is not unusual to picture some rough hewn individual with coveralls, miners hat and dirty face. As the 20th century progressed, this traditional male domain has taken on a new face. Enter the all too often forgotten people of coal and indeed the entire mining industry - the Women of Mining.

Whether working the seams themselves, in a support role with "the company" or sitting and waiting in anticipation day after day for their men to return from their shift, Cambria Publishing salutes these sometimes forgotten and largely unseen individuals.
